WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
The Occupational Certificate: Social Auxiliary Work (NQF 5) provides a solid knowledge, practical and workplace foundation.
The course equips you with skills to support people affected by:
- Emotional trauma or psychological stress
- Social exclusion or isolation
- Financial difficulties
- Housing & basic needs insecurity
- Addiction or domestic violence
This one-year, full-time course includes academic knowledge, practical skills and workplace experience, in order to ensure job readiness.

KNOWLEDGE MODULES
- Knowledge Modules will be hosted online. Attendance of scheduled classroom training will be compulsory.
- Introduction to Social Auxiliary Work
- Social Auxiliary Work and Social Welfare Services in the South African Context
- Social Work – methods and principles
- Communication and life skills in Social Auxiliary Work
PRACTICAL SKILL MODULES
- Practical skill module training will be hosted online. Attendance of scheduled classroom training will be compulsory.
- Render basic counselling and support
- Support the process to intervene with individuals and families
- Facilitate educational, life skills and support group programs
- Assist in implementation of community development process
- Assist with obtaining and keeping data that inform social service intervention strategies
WORKPLACE
EXPERIENCE MODULES
- Completion of scheduled workplace training at a secured workplace organisation for a minimum of 460 workplace notional hours.
- Work placements at government departments, NPOs, clinics & social service centres
- Exposure to client counselling and referral processes
- Exposure to facilitation of non-therapeutic group processes
- Exposure to community development processes
- Exposure to social work administration processes
EXTERNAL INTEGRATED
SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT (EISA)
- Once you have been deemed Competent in all Knowledge, Practical Skill and Workplace Experience Modules, you will be declared ready for the EISA and will be registered accordingly.
- Students needs to pass the EISA, conducted through HWSETA (Assessment Quality Partner) in order to obtain the QCTO Occupational Certificate: Social Auxiliary Work

- Grade 12/Matric (or equivalent NQF Level 4)
- Proficiency in English
